    EXPERIENCE:

    Lawrence Chrismas is a documentary photographer, writer, publisher, mining professional and historian living in Calgary. For more than 20 years Lawrence has explored the culture of coal miners through his environmental portraits and thoughtful synopsis of the stories of their lives in coal mining. His photographs have been exhibited extensively throughout Canada and are in many private and public collections including the Mendel Gallery, Edmonton Art Gallery, Glenbow Museum, Peter Whyte Gallery and Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. He has published two major books, CoalDust Grins~Portraits of Canadian Coal Miners, Alberta Miners~A Tribute, three smaller books and a music CD of original mining songs based on his documentation of Canadian Miners(CoalDust Grins~A Musical Portrait). Lawrence was been awarded a fellowship in the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and was recently conferred as a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts for his contribution to the arts through his documentary photography.
